need advice everyone
I’m currently in my second semester of a BS in Accounting & Finance, and I’ve been thinking about building some tech skills on the side. I’m especially interested in Google’s Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, and Advanced Data Analytics certificate programs on Coursera.
Now, I know you can take the courses for free if you just audit them, but you only get the certificate if you pay. I’m wondering — is it really worth paying for the certificates? Like, do employers actually care about them or is it more about the skills you pick up?
I’m trying to figure out if it makes sense to invest the money or just focus on learning and building a portfolio instead. I don’t come from a computer science background, so I’m trying to add some useful, practical skills alongside my finance degree.
Anyone here done the Google certificates? Did they actually help you land a job or internship?

idk where you are but if you're looking for work in the US, a certificate could help a bit
since without them, you would need either education or work experience to show you actually have experience in them
the only problem is that in the US, cybersecurity is still very saturated, i would know (pls hire me 🤕) so i don't think itll get you a job alone
if you can, you can try minoring in cybersec or ask if your school offers any degrees in accounting info systems or anything along those lines
entity resource management type shit
hi yeah, even though I’m not very experienced with this, I think you should get the courses as it can help show the employer you have atleast some sort of knowledge on the work your doing, especially getting certificates from google and all. It can show the employer you have potential.
heck if you really want you can switch majors
im really considering going the other way though...
