File Question
This is definitely a noob-y question but I just wanted to ask so I don't panic or whatever. I apologize if this is a stupid question/concern.
I had clicked on a link for a .net website and it ended up automatically downloading a file, but it had first asked what I wanted to do with it (first photo). I went into my downloads and it was one of those incomplete (?) files (has the c and downloads in the name? Can't remember exactly). I deleted it immediately because it caught me off guard.
.mid files deal with audio, right? I can see from the logo of the file that it seems to be. I just wanted to double check I couldn't possibly get anything from this file. But also, if it says canceled, did it ever really download in the first place?
I'm only asking because I've never had a file auto-download like that and I've had sort of traumatizing experiences with viruses in the past 😭
Again, I apologize if my question is stupid.

bro is using microsoft edge :brainless:
im not sure what your asking, but .mid is usually short for midi
and midi is a file format
Yes this is fine, I also had a similar experience with opera GX ads
No, it wasn’t downloaded in your PC - the reason why you seen the incomplete file is because it was waiting for you to actually download the file, which you cancelled which should be fine
If you ever do install malware accidentally, unless you click on the malware you can just delete it, regardless of it being installed
And I got no idea what file extension .mid is but it’s probably fine
Alright, thank you so much!
lmao how did i not explain what midi is im a goober
but yes midi is a file format, it's basically the original audio file form
almost every DAW works with midi at some level, and audio files will unfold into MIDI format which can then be converted into the audio signals you hear
so if i record an audio clip of me saying "amogus", the microphone will pick it up with as much quality as it can record, then convert it to a MIDI format, then that MIDI is sent to the program, such as Audacity
Audacity manages it as a MIDI waveform, then I can save and export it to MP3
then when I open the MP3 in Windows Media Player, Windows will convert the MP3 to MIDI by following the MP3 encoding/decoding rules
the decoded MIDI will be sent to my headphones and i will hear myself saying "amogus"
if you can't tell I did a class project on MIDI... 7 years ago now
Thank you for thoroughly explaining! ☺️
stupid bot, I’m not a bot
Anyways do this
