Cyber Club Topic Recommendations

Hello all, I have a high chance of leading a cybersecurity club (about to find out approval in around 3-4 hours) and was wondering what are some of the topics I should teach?

I was thinking of exploring the privacy and security of apps and how they all work, for example how the tor network works, tails os, metadata on images, but I’m open to ideas on what else I could teach or do within the club

I would love a team CTF but I would need to keep it beginner friendly and by CTF’s nature it may be confusing to them

TLDR; What are some cybersecurity beginner topics or interactive activities I can explain/do within a team?

I’ll keep an eye out on this thread for any potential solutions daily

regardless of whether or not you're leader you can definitely still talk about stuff

even something as simple as the basica of networking or IP networks or active directory can still be a good topic for meetings

id say do a few basic ones to get a sense of where your club members generally are before you get into discussing OSes

also see what resources you have available! if you're in a computer lab or something you can much more easily do VM stuff than if you're just on your own

Yeah I’ll start with an introduction of what cybersecurity is, basic stuff like OSINT, Linux, networking & hardening devices, then dive into more technical aspects

I’ll see how it goes, people are probably going to join for the “hacking” stuff so I’ll have to keep retention by doing some ethical ones

For now, I'm not going to get my hopes up too much since it's not actually approved but it's likely, but you are right on building the knowledge from the ground up

Thank you, that would be really useful, I don’t want to overwhelm them by introducing a lot of topics at the very start but I could do with the presentation layout and use one as a topic
