I'm moving to Linux and I need help.

I require GUIDENCE... I am moving to Linux, I've thought about this for a while and I definitely super dooper really really want to do it. Problem is, THERES SO MUCH INFORMATION and it's so easy to get overwhelmed with tonnes of knowledge whilst trying to find the answer to a simple question. So, here's where I need help. 1. I want to know which version of Linux is the best place to start? Is it Mint, ubuntu or is there a better one for a beginner epic gamer? 😎 2. I am getting soooo much conflicting information about NVIDIA compatibility. I've been told that i definitely absolute WILL NOT be able to install my Nvidia GPU driver updates AT ALL. Then I read conflicting information saying I can install the drivers and there updates but it's complicated. PLEASE HELP UNCOMPLICATE IT.

before chaos rises in people saying what linux distro is better, literally just pick any distro. The ones you should pick are: Ubuntu, Pop OS (It's meant for gaming), Mint, and others i probably forgot 2. Yeah biggest issue with linux is drivers. There's probably tutorials in the internet but it really depends what distro your using. Try to search what distro is best for NVIDIA or see which distro is easiest to install drivers on (or just use chatgpt πŸ™„)

Hey thank-you, since pop-os is more gaming targeted, it's likely I'll end up using that distro.

NVIDIA is famously bad for using linux there's some open source attempts to do linux drivers but they're famously bad i don't think that would be a distro thing because the problem is at the kernel level and every linux distro uses roughly the same kernel

I meant for the accessibility of installing the drivers True

So I've done a weeeee bit of digging. From what I'm seeing AGAIN I'M NEW SO IDK but from what I'm saying is pop!_os has a version with the latest driver for nvidia preinstalled. My only concern is doing the driver updates but these forums I'm reading are saying it's been getting easier to do? On windows it's a case of downloading the NVIDIA app and clicking update and install. However I'm not seeing a clear path to do this when I do make the move to pop!_os.

yea because nvidia never released a NVIDIA app but if it comes preinstalled, presumably you would just use the same update command you use to update everything else, i.e. sudo apt dist-upgrade

Okay that's a whole thing in itself. The terminal and commands. I'm guessing YT & Google is going to be my best friend in learning that stuff?

yup! idk how friendly popos is for not having to use them I'm guessing you will never have to open a terminal if you don't want to but there's a lot of things you can do in that black box with white text :blobnomcookie:

Maybe, I mean it certainly seems as though the terminal is going to be key in driver updates 🀣 I'm gonna take it step by step for sure.

yea, most tutorials are probably gonna immediately tell you to open a terminal, or not even that and just give you a bunch of commands you can copy paste them if you want, but my personal recommendation if you do want to get more comfortable with the terminal, try typing the commands letter by letter ... and now guninvalid's going off the to linux deep end again

use Gemini AI for terminal help . and start from Zorin OS if u a newbie in Linux. and ensure you got a VT support on your CPU . Cuz it's for wine and other VM needed thngs
