trying to boot linux mint onto an old ish win7 laptop
i already have a bootable SD card, and a bootable USB drive, and wiped win7 off of the laptop.
no luck with the SD card, havent been able to use USB
(USB and SD both bootable with rufus)

does it just refuse to boot? does it say no bootable device?
what kind of processor and motherboard do you have?
May I ask the architecture of the CPU? If 32-bit/x86, you need to get an x86 or x86 compatible .iso, if 64-bit/x86_64/x64, you should be fine doing the latest x64 releases.I might be wrong but I don't think SD cards can be made bootable honestly, but if the USB isn't booting, try remaking the installation files.
sd cards can be made bootable, ive done it before
whether or not your bios will let you do it is a different story
that makes a lot more sense, I have an older BIOS and can't really update it
