Laptop fan
My asus tuf gaming has a fan that works weirdly. It makes a weird sound, like it would create friction. When I opened the case, I saw the metal was slightly bent lower in 2 places, very little and in a very small area. (In the picture, one I took before I opened the laptop a second time, there's only one bend, barely noticeable in the zone of thigter metal (idk how to describe), and I am unsure if I should try to fix it myself or get it changed. Any advice would be appreciated, I don't really have the budget to fix it at the time

This is a video of how it sounds, ignore me slapping the laptop, it usually makes it stop atleadt for the time 😭
Lowkey whipping it to make it work :wat:
Hmm. I don't really see the bends in the picture. I also don't really hear the problem. I will trust that they are there though.
You could possibly order just a new fan for it. It looks like there is a QR code and serial number on the fan. Since you are already comfortable opening the case, I think you could replace it fairly easily.
Your laptop is cool. 👍
As in? 😭
It is a bit bent, and in the video I sent the sound it makes is weird, normally it makes a very smooth sound
But if I wanted to replace it myself uh

Id have to remove that orange thing
Radiator or smth i think?
Its a heatsink. I'm not sure. We can look it up if you like. Do you know the exact laptop you have? Usually there is a sticker on the bottom that will give you the model and serial number. We just need the model
You can also usually get the information from "System Information" in windows.

Now the wings of the fan are quite hard
Idk exactly what material they're made of
Some plastic, stronger on either way
And I was thinking maybe they create friction with that little part thats bent?
Its quite possible.
I don't really see the bend in the photo. Maybe you could circle it or something?
EIther way, you may be able to bend it back, but I would stress caution. If you render the fan inopperable you wont be able to use the laptop until its replaced.

It's now also bent like that in another spot close to the circled one
It's just a theory tho
Maybe it's not what causes it
If I'm not mistaken, this is 4-5 years old? The fan might just be wearing out. The bearings don't last forever and the dust accumulation also causes airflow issues.
I do believe I have found replacement fans.

Which leads me to believe you can take the heatpipes off the gpu and replace them. You would likely need thermal paste or pads to do that correctly.
I was hoping to find an article that discusses it, but I haven't yet.

I'm comfortable with opening the laptop, maybe unscrewing some screws, but idk if I can manage all that.. 😭
Altough
It is around 4 years old
But I've been with it to a profesional around 1 years ago
Maximum 2 but I think its closer to 1
Its honestly not that bad. But I do understand the hesitance.
He did something at the fan and it stopped doing the sound for around a few months now
I used a credit card to clear the fans off dust 😭
It is that bad atleast for me 🥀💔
Yeah, you could try cleaning it really well. Compressed air, maybe even gently with an old toothbrush.
If you want to get really brave, you could try some rubbing alcohol, just make sure you let it evaporate
I have a quick question
sure

Is this battery part thing
That connects to motherboard?
Removeable
Out of what you see
the cable connection? Yes
you would disconnect it there to change out the battery
So I'll have to plug it out if I wanna change the fan right?
I would recommend that, yes
its fairly simple. It only plugs in one direction
also, when working with electronics, do your best not to build up static electricity
they sell grounding wrist bands, but I've never used one to be honest
Sneaky electro wizard in the pocket
Wait
Do you get the refference? 😭
I don't wanna look schizophrenic
lol no sorry
its cool though
Static energy is different than normal energy?
hmm, its just a form of electricity. I don't know how much you know about it, but its just describing how the diffrences in potential occured
Well that static energy can mess up the motherboard or some components, if I'm right?
yeah, I wouldn't say its super likely, but it is possible. This will depend highly on the conditions where you are at. If you often touch metal things and feel a slight shock, it would be of a higher concern for you. But touching something that grounds you before working on the electronics would also greatly reduce the risk.
Did you ever play Clash Royale
No, sorry it doesn't sound familar
😲
Do you live under a rock? 😭
Wait, what games did you ever play
I'm older. I've played a few, but a lot less as the years have gone by
Would you be open to a game suggestion?
You won't regret playing it
There's many adults that play it
haha, sure. I can't promise I will find the time. If I'm not working, I'm moding this server and studying cybersec
Elden Ring
Best game I've ever seen
ah yes. I think I saw you playing it earlier
😅
It's a lifetime adventure, I can promise you wouldn't regret it
well thank you
I will consider that
I really hope you do 🙏 It's a gamechanger for real, if you ever give it a try just remember not to spoil your gameplay
If you get into it I'll help you without spoilers
Goodluck gang
Thank you! Good luck with the laptop
I hope you can get a bit more use out of your fan. If you do decide to change them out, let us know
It'll be the one to need the goodluck while I AM the one to work on it 😅
nah, you'll be fine. If you are brave enough to open it up you should have no problem
just make sure you figure out if you need paste or pads on the gpu before you take it off, it should be sort of obvious if you go to remove the pipes.
I'd look at that and order them with the fans if I were doing it.
