how much ram do you have? what operating system are you running?
16 tn
rn
windows
11
that's a bit big but thtat is still normal
windows 11 does use a lot of ram by itself
though you can definitely look at task manager and see if something's hogging ram that isn't supposed to be
rn its just discord, feather client, spotify, and medal
and thats taking up like 7 gigs in itself
the rest is prob windoes
yea that's normal
windows
it is how it is, the usual recommendation for new computers these days is 32gb minimum
its just that randomly weird stuff happenes
16 gb is a minimum but unless you're really tight on budget you should just do 32gb if you're building yourself
not anymore
yes that happens with computers
like the lag
that's normal
but then i knew i was hacked cause when i tried to open task manager it restarted my pc
if it's not stopping you from using your computer it's probably just the magic box of magic being magic
have you tried switching to linux 🙃
i barely know coding
you reinstalled windows already right?
ya
did you download something you shouldn't've?
no
do you think you still have a virus?
and i have bitdefender plus windows defender
no
possibly tho
do you have reason to believe you still have a virus?
yes
i mean
what reason? lag is not a reason
just my internet lagging randomly
yes that's the magic box of magic being magic
and no one else in the house had that problem
sometimes magic just is a little slow
if anything it's more surprising how well everything still works than that it's slow sometimes
does bitdefender check for rootkits
you don't have a rootkit
if you didn't download something you shouldn't've, you don't have a rootkit
this one guy tried to convince me i had a rootkit to get me to download a file called "download.exe"
yea that guy was trying to get you to download a rootkit
:brainless:
calling it a scanner
also, one thing people have told me is that downloading python can make my pc vunerable
is that true
ik its prob not
but just wondering
:Iris_FacePalm:
i have python
im trying to learn it rn
ok so to answer your question, no it doesn't
there's a kernel of truth there but it's not anything you should worry about
ok ty
ok so what is your current problem you're currently trying to fix?
the RAM issue is because you're running a lot of apps
and because windows 11 is dogwater
if it really bothers you, you can try switching to linux instead but honestly for you the only proper solution is to just buy a better computer
as for your internet, you can try moving closer to your wifi router or you can try connecting directly over ethernet
other than that there's not a ton you can do
Yo
So remember when u asked if i downloaded anything
There is something that i suspect could have been malware
But definitely not as serious as a rootkit

:Liskarm_Facepalm:
ok standard procedure
first off disconnect your computer from the internet,
It was before I wiped it
ok then you're fine
I downloaded a mod off modrinth
So it should have been safe
if you download something you shouldn't've again, run a windows defender full scan and a perhaps a bitdefender scan
But it only had like 200 download
and you should hopefully be good
i don't know or care what it was
I didn't download it after i wiped it
then you're fine
And when i setup my windows i scanned from defender and bitdefender
Ty for the help
Finally don't have to wrry abt malware constantly on top of school, sports, and my social life
@guninvalid over coax alliance mb for the pings but I owe u
meow meow :3
Btw my pc has all good spec EXCEPT for my ram
4060 ti
Ryzen 7700x
2 tb sss
Ssd
guninvalid's general advice for general goobers
1. keep your software up to date
2. use long secure passwords, and use a password manager if necessary
3. stay cautiously skeptic. trust but verify if you have to. be careful when downloading software from sources you don't trust
4. if you have reason to believe you have a virus, run a windows defender full scan. if it remains, reinstall windows
let me put it like this. my mom is an accountant. i love her to death, and i also hate her to death when she's yelling at me. she's an accountant and she knows almost nothing about tech. she has a list of passwords on her desktop, she asks me for help with the printers, and she wouldn't know an IP packet if it hit her in the face. but she's never had a virus because she follows these simple guidelines. if they work for her, they can work for you too.
