Local Linux user is idiot, SSD borked
Ok, this is the last cry for help before I just take it to a repair shop. I was being a fucking idiot and decided to unscrew my laptop and take out the NVMe while it was still running. Now I can still run the NVMe and my Windows partition boots just fine, somehow, but none of my Linux partitions work. I tried running a Linux install ISO but Linux mint gives me SQUASHFS errors when I try to install. I am able to get it to work when I boot in grub2 mode, but it still errors anytime I try to install the OS. I'm currently testing with another SSD and it looks like it boots properly. Is there anything else I can do? Is my SSD just borked?

um
you can try format it? if that no work then firmware / nand is bork methinks
i backed up everything so i can try that yea
or check with crystal disk info, that fuckin anime program
crystal dick info
yeah, it checks for like fucked sectors and errors or something
Most likely, I've had an SSD bork itself just by installing a game and Linux couldn't even mount the drive, couldn't format it on Windows as Windows would just freeze then kick the drive off when trying, PC wouldn't boot with it in. so uh yeah.
thats about the extent of my knowledge without looking into it more
What happened with mine pretty sure^^
i think prolly the best way to fix it, if it's possible, is running linux off a usb or something and using some linux tools
windows is ass
im sad to say goodbye to my windows partition but it's not a big deal
all my actual data is backed up
smartctl??i tried a linux mint install, smartctl was not in
will try again now
nvm
Ohh yeah you can scan the memory
Pretty sure EndeavourOS has it pre installed if you wanna go Arch route.
For errors
also update, i was able to install win11, linux mint, and nyarch into a different SSD so it's fine if this one is borked
Sorry the ssd
but i will be sad to see a 2tb ssd go the way of the dodo :(
if you have some sensative info on ssd which you 100% need tbh take it to a forensics lab ๐
i dont lol
did you format :3
yeh, i'd scan it with dick info or smartctl, see if its fuck. if not, format and try again. if that no worky is prolly big fucko mode
LMFAO
dick info
im so good at IT support
a company should totally pay me six figures for this
same
no pls hire me instead
When I did L4 tech support for Verizon I never knew i should use army vernacular
yea i always use phonetic alphabet for almost everything
knowing the phonetic alphabet goes hard when on the phone with support
gimme a j*b
yeeeaaahhhh
Also do a full format not a fast format, will take ages but could fix the issue.
i dont wanna use a full 2tbw
Mr. Me and I are on the same wavelength here
:BCSad:
wdynm
When I said army vernacular I did mean non church words lol
Well it could be an issue with the journal on the SSD chip, which means you'll need to do a full format.
yea ur right
Yeah you'd have to full format and re partition
but still thats like 1% of the lifespan of the ssd
:bcaSad:
Rip
yes
however
better than 100%!
I mean, better than throwing the bitch out
1% doesnt matter
real
or you could buy an intel optane ssd
im good
alright nerds, advice has been given, back to gen chat
Intel Optane is wild, my Omen Laptop came with one of those pre-installed
It was Ass
