so i wanted to ask if there was an infected computer on the same network on mine can it infect my computer ?
and i factory resetted my computer so everything is new
I factory resetted my pc and on windows 11 so I think everything is updated so I’m I fine now ?
yea you're fine now
if you don't have any reason to believe other computers on your network are infected you're fine
But what if there was an infected computer can he ?
But I changed my username and password after the factory reset
@guninvalid over coax alliance
i understand you're worried but i promise you you're fine
what did you even download? what evidence did you have that you were compromised?
factory settings windows10/11 is pretty secure already
Wrong image lmao
no right image
:giggle_girl:
But why do people say yes or no I just want to know can the computer with malware hack my computer or no ?
:texassigh:
yes, it is technically possible, there is a possibility of it occuring
because being on your network removes a bunch of layers of defense
but windows 10/11 have pretty good default settings in 2025, they're resistant to most types of attacks out of the box
so as long as you didn't disable windows defender firewall, you're fine
what did you even download? what made you think you had a virus?
can you tell me whats the possible ways he can hack my computer ?
after the factory reset i instantly turned off rdp but its actually turned off by default and file sharing is off by default too
but does he need to have my device password to like enter my computer or no ?
"he"? who is "he"?
i mean the infected computer with malware
you can't have zero risk
there's always a risk your system is hacked
but how can he hack my computer tho whats the possible ways ?
i don't know, but Microsoft does
that's why Microsoft sets the defaults to exclude RDP and file sharing
your system isn't even connected to the internet until after your system is installed and updated
yeah i know but im just scared the infected computer can compromise my pc
but the people i heard from they say its impossible and they have seen on it like 2016 or 2015
not now
yea it's still impossible
it really hasn't been a thing since 2010 or 2015
every modern operating system, especially windows, has a firewall and malware protection by default
but i feel like if it does still bother you, i am unironically suggesting you switch to MacOS
mac does still get viruses but Apple is very good at preventing them
idk but i just take people advice and go straight
by the way just received this when talking lol 🤣 🥀

yes this happens every single day
the last statistic i saw there's a cyber attack every 39 seconds
but also, about 60% of attacks are conducted through phishing
here actually i think my general advice could help
lol
thanks tho
but i should be fine right now right ?
cause everybody said its impossible after my factory reset
yea
what other devices are on your home network?
pretty much all modern phones are more secure than even windows
if there are other computers on your network though it's also worth running a windows update and a windows defender full scan
just 2 computers on windows 11 and my iphone
yea it's definitely worth keeping them updated and running a full scan
your iphone is fine, make sure iOS is updated though
yeah i know no way its hacked
but why the infected computer cant hack me after my factory reset ?
it's worth doing it in general
regardless of whether or not they're compromised it's still worth doing
it's a general maintenance task, same reason you brush your teeth in the morning
...you do brush your teeth in the morning, right?
because I don't :brainless:
same
lol
point being it's worth doing them regardless just to stay on the safe side
and because they will keep you safe from current threats so your system security doesn't get caught lacking
but still why cant he hack my computer can you explain?
@pls hire me
@pls hire me
👋
let me read thread hang on
Looks like it was already answered but let me take a crack at simplifying it
He can't hack the computer because security is stronger now then 2015. He's essentially going to hit a wall. Unless he REALLLY wants your laptop (most people will give up), your fine.
basically your good, don't need to worry.
uh
usb reinstall instead
way better
Oh okay thank you for the help
:OwO:
no reason teehee
because i needed to forward it and i selected the wrong thread
are you sure there is “malware” on your computer
a lot of things with goobers is they are not really sure they have malware their computer just acts weird for a few minutes
If you are clearly up to date theres a low chance someone will waste a new zero day on you unpolitically
pls hire me is right there is always a 0.01% chance no matter anything
yeah but the guys here told me the computers on my network cant hack my computer so im fine
but can the malware get back after my factory reset or no ?
no
its not a usb flash tho
i picked these options

unless you're a national threat a normal factory reset is fine
Off-the-shelf malware is for password grabbing and stealing, not persistence (when factory resetting)
oh okay
so this is what i did so im fine right ?
yes
alr thx
